In the past 2 months I have visited four different states, one different country, gotten married (!), and created countless amounts of memories. With that opening sentence you are probably wondering what all of that has to do with my Box Pack and I am here to tell you that it has everything to do with it. My Box Pack has come on every single trip I have taken in the past 2 months on an airplane, in a car, or just the short trip I take to the gym every day. It has been my Flat Stanley. You know, the cutout paper guy you take pictures of while you travel to show all the cool places that you go. This blog is about our adventures! Just me and my Box Pack (in my best Jay-Z/Beyonce voice).
It all started when my older sister, Lindsay Bourdon Menerey (the girl with two last names), decided to embark on her new career of being a professional athlete in a sport that no one had ever heard of called Grid. I love everything sports and her so I knew I would love it. I attended the DC Brawlers first home match on the outskirts of the greatest city on the planet which happens to also be our nations capital, Washington DC. With my Box Pack strapped firmly to my body complete with my megaphone, sharpie (for autographs from Taylar Stallings), wallet, and cellular device in it I was ready to go. Prior to Race 1 I was sitting with my family and the other families of the DC Brawler team, everyone was chatting about how exciting the Phoenix match was just a week earlier. I had watched this at home and it was very exciting. I hated I could not be there but being able to watch it live streamed was good enough for me. The countdown began for Race 1, my heart started to beat a little harder, and before I could blink twice it was done. I had very terrible chest pains for about 30 seconds prior to Race 1 my heart was beating so hard and so fast. I looked at my brother-in-law and all he said was, "Yup, welcome to Grid." Like he knew this was going to happen. I almost had a near death experience over the excitement of this amazing new sport and that is all he could say!
We traveled to DC one more time after that match, then to Charlotte, North Carolina for one of the semifinal matches, and finally to Los Angeles, California for the championship match. This is where the DC Brawlers made history and were crowned the first champions of this brand new professional sport! Talk about excitement. My Box Pack traveled everywhere collecting compliments and holding all of my necessities. It was my go-to carry on for all of my plane rides and fits in any overhead bin perfectly. Two of my trips were just overnighters and my Box Pack was the only bag I brought with me. Had to be careful about the liquids through the airport security, but boy does it hold a lot of workout clothes and shoes.
My Box Pack traveled with us to the Pensacola Beach Brawl where I decided to compete with an amazing group of woman. It was a great weekend with even better people. They run a great and fair competition every year and you could not ask for a prettier view. The first event was a hellacious triathlon. An ocean swim (didn't get eaten by a shark), 150 calories on an Assault Bike, and a 1 mile deep sand beach run. My Box Pack traveled with me from event to event with all of my necessary items I would need for those particular movements. I can fit three pairs of shoes, my wrist wraps, and my knee sleeves in it with room to spare. Flat Stanley ain't got nothing on it.
Last but certainly not least my Box Pack came with me on my honeymoon to Rivera Maya, Mexico. It was my carry on for this trip holding all of my important needs like my passport, customs papers, pesos, and so much more! It also had all my workout gear in it that I would need for the week I was in Mexico. Which was not much considering I had treadmills and a Smith machine to work with. Needless to say I did a lot of running and work with dumbbells. Dumbbell snatches, dumbbell clean and jerks, dumbbell burpee deadlifts, dumbbell walking lunges, dumbbell push presses, and the list goes on and on. My hubby's Box Pack came on most of the excursions with us. We strapped it to the front of the ATV that we took back into the jungle to a cenote that the water was so clear it looked fake. We are still trying to clean the dirt off of his Box Pack but I think its a good reminder of our awesome trip that we took.
All in all our lives have been very busy these past couple months, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Love your life and they way you live it. Life should be filled with spontaneity! It is what makes it so much fun. Oh, and get a Box Pack. You will not regret it. It is the best bag I have ever owned. I never thought I would say that after my college soccer days, and having some of the greatest back packs through the years. Its size is perfect, and the toughness and quality will make it last through years of CrossFit workouts, competitions, airplane rides, random excursions in Mexican jungles, and so much more.
"I have found that if you love life, life will love you back."
