Also known as the Caveman’s diet, Paleo diet involves eating what our ancestors used to eat back in the days. It means letting go of all the pasta, junk food, candy and other processed foods that the caveman did not have access to.
The idea behind Paleo diet is shedding off excess weight and becoming lean. Medical researchers argue that if one could adopt the Paleo diet, he or she will grow lean and healthy. Additionally, one will be less likely to develop lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease and other lifestyle diseases.
What To Eat And What Not To
When you go Paleo, you are expected to eat fresh fruits, eggs, nuts, seeds, healthy oils (macadamia, walnut, avocado, flaxseed, olive) fish, seafood, grass-fed meat and fresh vegetables.
Remember that back in the days there were no food companies; therefore you cannot eat any processed foods. Wheat and diary should be off your menu; this is because the cavemen were not farmers but hunters and gatherers.
You should avoid refined sugar, salty foods, refined vegetable oils and dairy products. The fiber rich diet of the cavemen alone is enough to shed off some weight with no exercise. However, it is recommended to keep exercising to maintain overall health.
As stated on the list of not to eat foods, Paleo diet does not allow salt. This helps to keep you away from sodium which is present in table salt. Paleo diet is heavily based on meat and fish, without these there is no Paleo diet. Vegetable sources of protein are not allowed.
Am I a Good Candidate For Paleo Diet?
The Paleo diet is not restricted to a certain group of people. Anyone can adopt a Paleo diet if they want to shed off some weight, become muscular and keep lifestyle diseases at bay. It is therefore a plausible idea to go Paleo if need be.
